Brian Honan
Finding his fitness groove at fifty.
Putting it all together
Brian has been another long-timer. He’s always been a regular in Boot Camp, at times he’s worked in my small group (semi-private) workouts too. Between owning his own business and his endless responsibilities with the Boonton Township Town Committee, it’s not always easy to make your health a priority. Brian has been able to use our in-person classes but often uses his home gym to participate in the Zoom workouts offered, and makes the best of his time. With our recent Body Composition Challenge, Brian was one of our top finishers losing a whopping 11 pounds
1. Background: How long have you been working out overall and how long have you been working with Jeff?
It's been a while. Since the Boonton Rec Center? How long is that? (Editors note: 8+ years)
2. What keeps you working out? And/or why with Jeff?
The desire to stay healthy and possibly take off my shirt on the beach. Jeff's classes are great because I can constantly evolve or modify based on how my body reacts to each exercise
3. You participated in the Body Composition Challenge, what kind of results did you see?
Well, I wasn't able to schedule my final check in, but I did lose 11 pounds, which is more than I expected.
4. Everyone always wants to know what the ‘secret’ is for losing weight, but truly, what recommendations would you offer? What kind of things did you discover worked well to help you reduce weight gain?
There is no secret. Everything in moderation, easy on the carbs and sugar. Make time for exercise 3-4 x per week.
For me over the challenge I just decided to give up bread, desserts, and really watch my alcohol intake. It was the jump start I needed.
5. What type of goal(s) do you have for the next two months?
Maintain, maintain, & put on little muscle
6. Looking further ahead, what type of goal(s) do you have for the next 5-10 years?
At 50 years old, the goal is to stay healthy enough to continue to exercise and move at a similar level to where I am today. Avoid the back neck and knee problems that are so prevalent with my age set.
7. Any final words of wisdom?
The hardest part of working out is starting. It's always rewarding when you finish!
